Day 1 - Front In Maceió Hackathon
November 13, 2014
Day one of Front in Maceió, already buzzing with the hackathon running simultaneously at SENAI, where I was in charge of mentoring, and at IFAL, with fellow Mozillians Marcus and Melissa mentoring the teams there.
Morning — 9am to 12pm
After a brief introduction to Firefox OS, I tried to gauge the group’s skill level. I was genuinely surprised: the students’ average age was 15 to 18, and most already had an app published or in progress — a sign of real interest and solid programming knowledge. Honestly, one of the best groups I’ve talked to in terms of knowledge and eagerness to learn. After a quick brainstorm, it was clear people already had project ideas in mind, so we jumped straight into defining tasks and building.
Afternoon — 1pm to 5pm
Right after lunch, since the SENAI students had an exam, I went to help out the IFAL group. They were already well underway, with apps in progress — some building APIs, others the front-end.
