About me

Hello! I'm Rafael Tavares, a software engineer with over a decade of experience in software development, technical leadership, and legacy system modernization.

I currently work as an AI Tech Lead at Zup, an Itaú company, based in Aracaju, Brazil. I lead a squad of eight developers migrating legacy applications built in COBOL and .NET Framework 3.5 — from on-premises environments to modern architectures on AWS, using Python, Java, and generative AI tools such as StackSpot, AWS Q Transform, and Kiro.

My journey at Zup began as a Senior Developer on a billing project for Recovery. I then worked as a Senior Back-end Developer with .NET Core and Kotlin on iti, Itaú's banking app, building highly available and resilient microservices. Over the past few years, I've also contributed to modernization initiatives within Itaú's Deprecation program as a Full Stack Developer with Angular, .NET Core, and AWS.

Before Zup, I coordinated the development team at Serveloja, reporting directly to the CEO and evolving payment management products for card terminals — an experience that strengthened my role as a technical leader and Scrum Master.

My career has been built on the .NET ecosystem, with experience in DDD, microservices, Flutter, Angular, and AWS. Today, my core day-to-day stacks are AWS, Python, Java, and AI/ML.

I hold a degree in Internet Systems from UNIT and I'm pursuing a Master's in Computer Science at UFBA, focused on Data Analysis and Visualization. During my undergraduate studies, I volunteered at Mozilla and served as a Microsoft Student Partner (MSP), organizing events and teaching development workshops.
